24JAN2024 Michael, The fenders and number plate arrived safely today.  They are beautiful and I am so happy with them.  You and Andrew out did yourselves on these!  Attached is a photo of the rear fender in place.  It took a little bit of fitting, but it goes on nicely and is very secure.  I may get around to installing the front tomorrow, just test fitting it showed me how smart you guys were to not drill the holes.  They are close, but I think I will have to make some adjustments to get it to fit the fork blades. Mark (USA, Francis Barnett)

29DEC2023 Micheal, I have attached photo’s of my Velocette Kss/Venom  which has the mudguards you made in the Clubman/Thruxton  type. It has been a slow project as I kept diverting to other bikes whilst the search for parts continued. The guards painted in Mercedes Mid silver were easy to fit and required NO “adjustment”. Regards Paul (Australia, Velocette)

21DEC2023 Hi Micheal, I have squeezed the mudguard into the forks. It’s looking great. Now need to drill some holes. I need to change all the stays due to the change of mudguard. It’s all looking good up until now, thanks for your help. I am impressed by the quality of your work. Kind Regards, Angus (Switzerland, Ariel)

08FEB2023 Michael The fenders arrived safely on Saturday. All I can say is beautiful. The craftmanship on them is stunning, the quality and amount of work that goes into them is apparent, just by looking at them. Thank you. The only thing I cant figure out is how you can get a package from Australia to Louisiana faster than if I send a package from Louisiana to Los Angeles, by US mail. Once I figure out whether or not I’m going to proceed with my 1913 Harley build, Ill contact you for a set of fenders for that. Thanks again Bob (USA, Harley Davidson)

14JAN2022 Hi Andrew, gaurds arrived yesterday very pleased with them many thanks  Wayne (NZ, Velocette)

13JAN2022 Hi Michael and Andrew, the last days have given me some more headache, as the parcel seemed to be stuck in Frankfurt, and even more so becaue both DHL and DHLexpress knew nothing about it - DHL is still listing the status of October 14 2021 as last movement and DHLexpress stil does not recognise the tracking number. However, the morning the doorbell rang and there it was!  I gave the driver a good tip which seemed to surprise him, but I was so happy that the parcel had turned up again. I have not tried the mudguards on yet, but I must say, the finish is really superior to anything I have seen before! Thanks a lot, and all the best. Wilfried (Germany, Brough Superior)

16DEC2021 Hi Andrew, i collected the fenders for my Thor`s and Harley Project on the post today. The fenders looks great, you guys have done a marvles  job making them. Thanks and happy Christmas and a happy New year. Best regards Gunnar. (Norway, Thor & Harley)
Thanks Gunnar, Lots of international freight has been stalled in a European bottleneck lately, good to see yours got through in less than 5 weeks from a little country town in Western Australia to an even smaller dot on the map in the Norwegian Fjords, Michael, Vintage Steel

13OCT2021 Hey Mates, I got my guards Saturday! Brought them to my restorer today. We were both very impressed with the quality and fit. We spent the afternoon on fitment and all went well. The project was stalled due to Covid, but the guards definatly put a spark under our collective asses. Thanks for the quick shipping and excellent craftsmanship. Kevin (USA, Norton)

08OCT2021 ,hello we got the fenders they are the best we have ever seen! however the valance should not have been fastend to the front fender ,1911 harley does not have a front fender valance.we wanted the valance for other years of bikes,so i guess we will need a front fender for a 1911 harley single no valance.can you help us? thank you mark (USA, Harley)
Sure can Mark, thanks for your feedback, we make them all in-house so can do as you wish. Michael, Vintage Steel

04OCT2021 Hi Michael, You had asked for a few pictures once mounted on the frame and forks. These guards that you produce are the best of quality and fit, by far, from anywhere in the world!!!! Great Guys and easy to deal with, Thank you ……Ps the bike is a 1930 KSS velo. Thanks for helping out, appreicate it. Regards Reece (NZ Velocette)

23SEP2021 Hi Michael, Guards finally turned up today. Quality.... perfect , cant ask for better. Thanks heeps. Will post some photos soon. Regards Reece (NZ Velocette)

27AUG2021 hi Michael, I wanted to let you know that your wonderful mudguards arrived safely earlier today.   The were superbly well boxed and are things of great beauty.  I am super pleased with them thank you.
In the spirit of your note, there is one thing I should let you know is that whilst the front mudguard fits exactly perfectly and looks superb, there ear guard is slightly too wide.   I will attach a coupe of photos.  This means that it will not slide up inside the rear frame to fasten the loop over without some unfortunate grinding.    The new guard is 3.93in wide at this point and the original is 3.653 in.
What would you think is the best way to accommodate this?   I am some way from a full dry fit, but when I get around to it, it occurs to me that its quite hard to get the rear guard in exactly the correct spot without first being able to push it up into place on the frame.  I guess I will just have to estimate its location.  It seems a shame to grind a relief in each side, and I am mindful of not opening up the fold, but unless you think I can press a relief into the guard, I guess grinding or filing is the only way. [ Vintage Steel comment - It’s an easy fix and hopefully you can get someone to help hold the guard for you while you do it. (Instructions and pictures attached ). Do not cut or grind the edge as this will dramatically weaken the guard and cause a fatigue crack. The pressing should probably only need to go as deep as the main part of the guard (ie the Panama section) It should be enough to get the  clearance for this earlier model frame.]
Anyway,  I am truly pleased with the guards, they are excellent.   I dont suppose you make chain cases by any chance? photos will arrive in a second e mail as I am having trouble attaching this end for some reason. all the best, Andrew ( UK, Ariel)

12AUG2021 Hi Andrew and Michael. My flat tank Norton guards arrived today and you have one very happy customer. Excellent workmanship . Thank you. Gary (New Zealand, Norton)

09JUL2021 Hello Andrew, the fender arrived ! And looks great 👍👍 Thanks for all !! Great deal , thank you Best regards, Juergen (Germany, Harley)

30JUN2021 Dear Michael and Andrew, I was somewhat shocked when I received this email at the thought that the supply of such high quality items could possibly be lost to the various motorcycle restorers. However is to be hoped that there could be  some interested person or body prepared to take over your successful business. The recent supply of my Norton mudguards are of such excellent quality that they have resided in our sunroom – even my wife who is not mechanically minded suggested that they be shown to visitors. ……. Regards and thanks again. Colin (NSW, Norton)

08JUN2021 Hi Michael and Andrew, Thank you. I got an email from Australia Post this morning that it is on the way. Also just watched your video that was attached to the email. It was very interesting. I had always wondered about rolling the profile of the guard. If it was done straight from the flat sheet in a series of steps with different profile rollers or in one go but I noticed that you folded it first then rolled it. Most people do not appreciate how much work goes into hand making something that is of a good quality. Can not wait to see the mudguard when it arrives. Kind regards, Joshua Kingston, Jorock Welding Pty Ltd (NSW, Velocette)

31MAY2021 Hi Michael, Received the guards in excellent condition they are perfect for my bike only have to make small adjustment to rear guard where it fixes to  the  frame behind gearbox very simple job thanks for your help. Steve (NSW, Velocette)

22MAY2021 Hi Andrew, The guards have arrived and look to be spot on thanks. All indentations appear to be in the correct positions. A first class reproduction indeed. Regards, Colin (NSW, Norton)

11MAY2021 Hi All - Just want to send a sincere "Thank You" to the guys at Vintage Steel for the Ace fenders that arrived safely in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota!  Working with them was absolutely flawless... From the initial order through delivery, I was in the loop all the way, and could not have asked for a better trade.  Thanks again Guys!   You are the best! Dan (USA, Ace)

02APR2021 G'day Michael,  I've recently knocked up some stays and fitted the fixed and removable guard. I'm very happy with the guard that you produced, once again, thank you very much. Some pics attached. Matt (VIC, Rudge)

18MAR2021 Hi Andrew! As promised, I would send you a feedback when the mudguard has arrived.. With a few problems at the customs in DK., I finally received the mudguard undamaged last week. I must say that it is really quality made and it fits the frame exactly. I will not hesitate to recommend Vintage Steel to anyone if the need occurs. Kind regards Hans (Denmark, Norton)

16MAR2021 Hello Michael, I have had a look at your web pages and I say I am impressed! I knew that the Australians have a long tradition of making stuff themselves rather than waiting for a ship from England to arrive, but I doubt if there is a tinsmith in England making such fine mudguards! Wilfried (Germany, Brough Superior)

10MAR2021 I live about 15 kilometres from the Vintage Steel guys. I call in from time to time to see what’s on the agenda. YES I can vouch for high-quality  of goods produced   YES they are sending their wares overseas as well as Australia. I had a front mudguard for a 1930 Harley Model BA made VERY GOOD. Paul (NZ, HotRod)

06NOV2020 Your mudguard now fitted. Very happy with how it all went together. Did have to shorten lifting handle by over an inch to fit your lugs. Don’t know which is correct* but looks good. Regards Stu. (NZ, Ariel Red Hunter) *(Vintage Steel now have two versions, long handle and short handle)

03SEP2020 I received the fenders today and feel lucky to get them.  US postal service almost lost them and said the zip code on the box was wrong.  It turns out it was correct and they just screwed up.  Anyway, the fenders are fantastic and so far the front fender is about halfway mounted, and fits perfectly.  The rear fender looks good and should be easier to mount than the front.  I'll send progress pictures and pictures of the finished bike.  It's probably going to be one of the best Francis Barnett 148cc bikes ever! Thanks again for the wonderful work. Mark (USA, Francis Barnett)

16JUN2020 ‘Hi Andrew, I just received the Henderson frnders that you sent. They look beautiful! Great job.’ ….. ‘Your fenders are so nice, it will be a shame to paint them! I'm just kidding of course, but could you imagine having them polished and plated!I LOVE your flat wire strut material! I was never able to locate any. I can't tell you how many struts I have made and filed the sharp edges round.  -Pat’ (USA, 1913 Henderson)

13MAY2020 My new rear mudguard for my 20 series arrived today from Vintage Steel, local of sorts Western Australia. Lots of discussions, photos , measurements and in the end a wooden form to get the front section sorted, Very pleased 😀 Warwick (Victoria Australia, Excelsior)

02MAY2020 ‘Hi Mike and Andrew,’ …. ‘I think I will take your advise and use the bike as a jig. If you are going to laser cut fender brace tabs anyway fine. At this time I am in no hurry. If you could just bend the braces to fit inside the fenders and ship all that to me I will do the final brace length and tab mounting on the bike. That really is a good suggestion from you and the right way to get a correct fit. In regards to mounting the tabs I thought I saw some slight dimpling on your sample fenders, in the rivet area, that I would like to avoid. No big deal. Just the normal picky bullshit that you probably hear all the time from people that can't even mount a fender let alone make one. The real fact is, you guys make great fenders like no one ever has before in our hobby.’ …… ‘ I am glad you guys are busy and getting new orders in. I know you will be once again swamped when things settle down worldwide. Looks like we are getting close to that. Our stock market is steadily going up a little at a time in anticipation of normalcy. Best, Buster (USA, Yale)

24MAR2020 Just a little note to say what a pleasure it was to install your Super Flash fender. It went on like a fitted Gloove. Dan (Canada, BSA)

21Jan2020 Hi Michael,   I have used your fenders before (both ACE and Henderson) and love your quality. I am in need of a set for a 1913 Henderson but I don't see a specific listing for that on your website. It may be an American blank but I'm not sure. Do you happen to know? I would like to place an order if I can identify the correct profile. Patrick (USA, 1918 Henderson)

29APR2019: My name is Kevin Marks.    I am restoring a 1949 M.A.C Velocette motor bike.   I approached Vintage Steel about making a pair of  new mudguards after going  on their website.    As a result the quality of the product is absolutely exceptional regarding metal finish and contour.   This resulted in making them quite easy to fit to the frame.   The friendly service and the ease of dealing with the people was a pleasure and you get informed regularly of the manufacturing.   I would strongly recommend this company  to anybody who is in need  of any of their products. Hi All
If you want mudguards that are made like the originals and fit out of the box, Vintage Steel are the guys that do it.
After a few emails and measuring the remains of the originals I placed an order for 2 pairs of guards for 1914 2 3/4.
2 weeks later they arrived, all i can say is, awesome, everything the correct size, the valences and belt guard all rolled on to the guards just like the originals, every thing the correct size
You get what you pay for, they are the highest quality.
I will be ordering for my veteran Triumph soon, they are the only manufacture I have found that rolls the edge bead correctly, round, not flat.
P.S. UK buyers, don't forget the import duty (its worth the quality)
